In-Kennel Training

At what age should I start to train my dog?
We start training pups as early as 8 weeks old. We teach pups 'how to learn' using all inducive/positive methods. It can take up to 6-8 months with constant training for a simple command like 'sit' to stay in the long-term memory of a dog's mind. As the dog gets older we teach the dog to become more responsible for its' actions.

Do you "guarantee" training?
Here at Canine Headquarters, we guarantee that the information and instruction is some of the best in the world. Your dog will be trained in the areas agreed upon by you, the dog owner, and the staff at Canine Headquarters when we custom design your program for in-kennel training. Once your dog goes home, continued training success will be based 100% on the commitment of the dog owner. We guarantee to be committed to the training for the life of your dog.

If I leave my dog for training, will my dog remember me when I pick him up?
Absolutely!! Dogs have an incredible memory when it comes to their owner. We have never seen a dog forget their owners, even after 6 months of in-kennel training!

Will my dog "listen" to me after I pick him from in-kennel training?
Since we consider 'training' more along on the lines of 'management', there will be a short period where the dog will need to be given time to adjust to respond to all family members. Because respect is 'non-transferable' we offer a free private lesson upon the pick-up of your dog and then another free follow-up a few weeks after that to ensure that your dog is respecting the commands given by you as he did for us.

Do you train all breeds and mixed breeds?
Absolutely!! Here at Canine Headquarters we don't look at color, size, or breed. We treat all dogs/breeds alike. All dogs, regardless of breed, receive the same world class training.

How often will my dog get training and what will he be doing when not training?
Here at Canine Headquarters, our programs are results oriented. As a general rule, we provided 3-4 training sessions per day. A training week is considered 5 days. We limit the number of dogs we accept for in-kennel training at any given time to ensure proper time is devoted to your dog's learning. When your dog is not training he will spend time relaxing in one of our shaded play yards, or swimming, or going for walks. These extra activities are provided at no charge to you.

Will my dog be stressed when we leave him for training?
Although Canine Headquarters is located in a quiet country setting, sometimes dogs have slight stress for the first few days when left for training. Every dog is different and the recovery period can be different depending on the individual dog's temperament. It is not uncommon that when a dog returns 'home' they suffer the same stress they did when dropped off for training. Signs of stress include: loss of appetite, loose stool, restlessness, and slight weight loss. We call this the "cool down" period. Because this can take a few days, we do not offer in-kennel training for less than 2 weeks for new dogs. Here at Canine Headquarters, we do everything possible to ensure your dog settles in comfortably.

May I visit my dog during training?
Here at Canine Headquarters we operate by appointment only, and can schedule a visitation with your dog at your convenience. However, we do not recommend visitation while your dog is in training. Your dog will be on a training schedule and visitations may cause set-backs. Your dog seeing you before he's ready to go home may cause additional stress by you leaving again. It's really in the dog's best interest not to visit during in-kennel training. We will call with progress reports every Friday by the end of the business day.
